Two Real ETF Filings Are Now Bittensor's Actual Catalyst to Watch
Grayscale and Bitwise both have spot TAO ETF applications in front of the SEC, with a decision window landing in August. Unlike most Bittensor volatility, this one has a real date attached to it.

Most of what moves TAO's price is internal to the ecosystem — governance disputes, subnet drama, emission changes. Right now there's something different on the calendar: two independent, real spot TAO ETF filings sitting in front of the SEC, both pointing at the same August decision window.
Grayscale: converting an existing product
Grayscale filed an S-1 on December 30 to convert its existing Bittensor Trust into an exchange-traded fund on NYSE Arca under the ticker GTAO. This isn't a cold start — the trust already exists on OTCQX, held about $7.97M in TAO as of year-end, and carries a 2.5% expense ratio. Grayscale's filing also states it plans to actively stake the TAO it holds as part of the fund's revenue strategy, rather than just sitting on unstaked exposure.
Bitwise: a broader multi-asset structure
Bitwise's filing is a different shape: an N-1A registration filed April 2 as part of a batch of 11 crypto strategy ETF applications, allocating 60% of assets directly in TAO with the remainder in exchange-traded products and potentially futures or swaps. It's a more diversified structure than a pure spot holding.
Why this one actually has a date
Both applications share an SEC decision window in August 2026. That's unusual for Bittensor-related news, which is normally reactive — a governance dispute breaks, a subnet controversy breaks, price moves on the surprise. An ETF decision is scheduled. If either is approved, it opens a genuinely new institutional access point to TAO — pension funds, wealth managers, and family offices that won't touch an OTC trust or a DEX but will buy a listed ETF. If both are rejected or delayed, that's a real (if less dramatic) data point too.
Worth watching either way, and worth watching specifically in August.
